A educator's website devoted to ongoing professional learning.
Professional learning is an ongoing process. It takes time and a willingness to listen. Sometimes it requires letting go of things, to make space for more balance in our professional lives. This blog was born out of the space that one educator created to think, rest, and explore.
Topics on the blog include these listed below. Although this blog has lots of great teacher resources, at its core is the desire that teachers are living healthy, satisfied lives. How the journey began . . .Learning Through the Long Haul was named after our family travels in our restored 65 Airstream trailer during summer breaks from teaching. As a dual teaching family we have capitalized on our extended breaks in the summer together. These rich times of getting away from our teaching lives allow for rest, reflection, and growth. It isn't always easy to take a break from teaching, but how we fill our time really matters. The natural world has provided the greatest sense of inspiration for us as teachers, and the slow pace of road tripping allows for lots of time outdoors, with family, reading, and simply slowing down. This has been an ongoing priority as educators. With these times, I have been able to reflect and recharge, allowing for more personal and professional growth.
Whether you stay in one place or need to get away, we have to prioritize time as teachers to reflect. We have to make the choice to pursue growth. It is hard to step outside of classroom duties to reflect on our progress and learn new things. It takes time and the ability to prioritize your own learning. Learning truly is a "long haul" mindset. |
